NATO Secretary General: it is Important to uphold sanctions against Russia

Jens Stoltenberg believes that they should remain until Russia starts to fulfil Minsk agreements

NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg urged the US and the EU to maintain the sanctions against Russia imposed over the conflict in Ukraine until Russia starts to fulfil the Minsk agreements. About this Stoltenberg said during his speech in Brussels, reports Air force.

"We saw action, we saw the imposition of economic sanctions by the US, the EU, and I think it is important to uphold these important sanctions," - said the NATO Secretary General.

In March, the European Union extended by six months sanctions against individual 146 citizens of the Russian Federation and 37 companies. Sanctions will be in effect until September 15, 2016.

A spokesman for the U.S. state Department John Kirby said today that Washington does not intend to weaken the anti-Russian sanctions until Moscow will fulfill its part of the Minsk agreements.
