The current period can be more dangerous than the cold war, as major powers threaten existing international agreements.

EU Ambassador to Russia Markus Ederer believes that if Russia and the United States will not try to minimise the current risks in the bilateral relations, the situation can become more dangerous than during the cold war. This representative of the EU said in an interview with Kommersant.

"During the cold war it was signed several important agreements in the field of arms control: Open skies Treaty, The Treaty on the elimination of intermediate-range and shorter-range, The contract on reduction of strategic offensive arms. And today, not only can not enter into new agreements, but also jeopardize existing agreements," said Ederer.

He said that now humanity lives "in a world without poles", while "the situation is not static but highly mobile".

"According to some experts, all this may have a negative impact on the possible extension of expiring in 2021 The Treaty between Russia and the USA on measures for the further reduction and limitation of strategic offensive arms", − the diplomat added.

"I have all this alarming. If we do not try to minimize the stemming of the current situation threats, the current period can be more dangerous than the cold war", − said the EU Ambassador.
Earlier the President of Russia Vladimir Putin said that relations between Russia and the United States are at the lowest point since the cold war.
