The total amount of international financial assistance to Ukraine for humanitarian needs exceeded $649 million Most of these funds have been invested in the Donbass. This was stated today by the President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko at a joint briefing with EU Commissioner for humanitarian aid and crisis response Christ Stylianides, the correspondent ЛІГА.net.
"The total amount of assistance that Ukraine has received on the humanitarian needs, is more than $649 million and it came from different institutions, including the EU, USA, UN, international Committee of the red cross, Canada, Australia, Japan, Switzerland. The lion's share of these funds was sent on a humanitarian mission in the occupied territories," he said.
"Without this help, I can not stress the terrible humanitarian catastrophe that is happening in the occupied territories, would have even more negative consequences for those Ukrainians who were in the occupied territories," he said.
According to him, the decision of humanitarian problems in the Donbass can only be achieved through full implementation of the Minsk agreements.
"Ukraine is very responsible for every single point of the agreements reached in Minsk, and we urge the Russian side to ensure the full implementation of the agreements. Otherwise we must extend sanctions against Russia, as the only effective tool for encouraging companies to solve problems at the negotiating table," said he.
Poroshenko added that the talks with Stylianides were devoted to the coordination of actions of Ukraine and the EU on the implementation of Minsk agreements. "It was noted that Ukraine was fulfilling all its obligations. We consider groundless the attempts of Russia to accuse Ukraine of the opposite, and will receive full support from the EU.
